A bold and rustic paint finish using Country Mustard. Create this look with hints of dark green and accents of reds and browns.

For this paint recipe, we walk you through how to create a distressed and rustic finish with touches of gold.

We're using Country Mustard as the base for this recipe but you could also try Burmese for a toned down version or try Rubbed Sage or Hokitika Gorge for a green or blue version.

What you will need:

1 - Paint in Country Mustard chalk paint using the round synthetic brush. Paint in all directions and really load up your brush when painting, you want to create lots of texture. Do a second coat if needed for full coverage.

2 - Use a small amount of Dark wax to seal your paint finish. Brush right out with your natural bristle for a thin layer and wipe off any excess with a rag.

3 - Make a coloured wax using Brickyard chalk paint and Clear wax, using a 1:1 ratio. Using your natural bristle brush, brush on in areas you wish to highlight and gently wipe excess off with a clean rag.

4 - Make a coloured wax using Starling chalk paint and Clear wax, using a 1:1 ratio. Pick up a small amount on your natural bristle brush and brush out in the corners and details to create shadows and depth. Wipe any excess off with a lint free rag and use fine steel wool to blend if neccesary.

5 - Optional: Detail the edges with Gold gilding wax, using either a finger or a detail brush.
